Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services requires a Knowledge Exchange Facilitator.

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is committed to and works to promote health and well-being and improved access to services for immigrants and refugees in Toronto by addressing medical, social, economic, settlement and integration and environmental issues.  The Centre envisions a future in which diverse individuals, families and communities can achieve health with dignity. Access Alliance is a recognized Centre for Excellence in Newcomer Urban Health. Our Research Department conducts community-based research focused on investigating and overcoming health inequalities faced by newcomer and racialized groups.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the Refugee Youth Health Project Team as a Knowledge Exchange Facilitator. This project is focused on the Afghan, Karen, and Sudanese communities.  The project looks at 1) youth’s changing roles in family and community within five years of arrival as refugees to Canada, and 2) refugee youth challenges, strategies and needs in meeting their educational goals.  Working closely with the team, the Knowledge Exchange Facilitator will be responsible for thoughtfully and creatively disseminating and sharing the findings from this research project with a broad range of stakeholders including the three communities of interest, youth, service providers, policy makers, and the media. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with research team and partners to plan, implement and evaluate knowledge exchange and community engagement activities geared at sharing and getting input on the findings from the research project
  • Developing and sharing knowledge exchange materials for a broad range of stakeholders including the three communities of interest, youth, service providers, policy makers, and media. 
  • Act as a coach and mentor for refugee youth peer researchers and research assistants in knowledge exchange activities for the project
  • Deliver and participate in the development of knowledge exchange events for stakeholders
  • Assist in partnership building with organizations and stakeholders in key communities and neighborhoods where Access Alliance works with newcomer youth
  • Conduct follow-up and impact evaluation of knowledge exchange reports and activities from the project
  • Perform other relevant duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant discipline (health, social work, education, communications, etc);
  • Three (3) years experience in knowledge exchange, dissemination, ethno-specific community engagement or communications in relation to youth and/or diverse communities
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with demonstrated experience producing plain language and user friendly materials and knowledge exchange methods;
  • Experience in successfully organizing community engagement and dissemination events such as workshops, symposia, policy roundtables, and/or conferences.
  • Demonstrated and strong facilitation skills in multi-stakeholder meetings and community workshops
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement with youth and marginalized communities; 
  • Experience in building and fostering effective partnerships and stakeholder relationships
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, independently and think strategically
  • Strong knowledge of (mental) health issues faced by immigrant and refugee communities, particularly youth
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of anti-racist/anti-oppression principles
  • Fluency in languages spoken within Sudanese, Afghan and Karen communities is an asset

This is a full-time 16 week contract position, scheduled to work 35 hours per week
Salary: $23.92 per hour
Bargaining Unit position: United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 175
