The COSTI-IIAS Immigrant Services, Languages Bureau requires a Client Services Associate.

COSTI is a multicultural organization providing settlement, employment, rehabilitation and ESL services to newcomers.

COSTI’s Languages Bureau is a full-service communications operation providing professional translation, interpretation and typesetting services in over 100 languages to individuals, businesses, community-based agencies, government departments, educational institutions, and regulatory bodies. A fee-based service, the Languages Bureau is an integral part of COSTI’s development operations, contributing to the non-governmental revenue base that supports many of COSTI’s programs and services. Responsibilities:

  • General and administrative support (including data entry, invoicing, and filing).
  • Schedules appointments, reviews client documents or interpretation needs, and provides written cost estimates in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Conducts follow-up and responds to inquiries.
  • Distributes promotional and outreach materials.
  • Determines linguistic needs of clients, establishes timeframes, provides quotes, and assigns freelance staff.
  • Schedules appointments and meets with walk-in clients.
  • Administers interpreter training program assessments, and registers students.
  • Assists with production work (typesetting, editing, and layout).

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the use of Windows based computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • 12 months of office experience.
  • Sensitive to the needs of newcomers.
  • Must have strong customer service orientation.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English is required.
  • Ability to speak another language would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing and related software (i.e. Adobe products) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of translation and interpretation services would be an asset.
  • Strong coordination, organizational and administrative skills.

This is a non-union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week.
Start Date: December 21, 2009
Salary: $31,865 to $34,648 + benefits
Location: 1710 Dufferin Street, Toronto
