Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services requires an Acting Coordinator,Youth Programs-East Satellite.

Access Alliance Multicultural Health & Community Services is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to become part of our Youth Department. The Acting Coordinator, Youth Programs plans, implements, and evaluates program initiatives which support newcomer youth living in Toronto’s East End.  The Acting Coordinator provides leadership to staff, and works collaboratively with youth, partners, and the broader community to identify and address issues affecting young people.

Responsibilities:

    • Develop community based projects in conjunction with staff that are responsive to community needs, and in accordance with the strategic directions of the Centre.
    • Generate a process of stakeholder ownership, including clients/ participants, community agencies and community members, in the planning, delivery and evaluation of projects.
    • Supervise relevant staff, students, and volunteers
    • Contribute to financial management reporting and budgetary preparation, and expending Employer resources where required
    • Evaluate programs to ensure that objectives are met and make changes to the day to day running of the projects based on staff and community input.
    • Work with other organizations and community groups to identify health priorities and work in collaboration with the community to plan for and implement strategies to achieve better health for youth.
    • Utilize health promotion strategies including health education, creating supportive environments, community development, policy building and re-orienting health services to support young people to increase control over and improve their health;
    • Willingness to travel and provide services throughout the City, at designated sites, and to work evening and weekend shifts when required/scheduled;

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate degree in a relevant discipline (Health Sciences, Social Work, Education, etc)  or a combination of an undergraduate degree  and 2 years work experience;
    • Minimum 3 years experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation of community based youth programs and services;
    • Thorough understanding of anti-oppression, health promotion and community development principles;
    • Experience working with newcomer youth, low-income and other priority groups; knowledge of community resources and services available to youth
    • Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring staff and working with multi-racial, multi-lingual communities and teams in a leadership capacity;
    • Demonstrated experience in resource management: partnership development, fundraising and proposal writing, managing project budgets, providing supervision and support to students and volunteers
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Demonstrated interpersonal, time management, problem solving and organizational skills
    • Commitment to working with low income, multi-lingual and multi-racial newcomer communities;
    • Excellent computer literacy, keyboarding skills, and various software applications;
    • Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to community needs.
    • Ability to speak and write fluently in a language of one of the priority groups of the Centre an asset;

    This is a full-time position, scheduled to work 35 hours per week
    Duration: Contract Position, December 21, 2009 – June 4, 2010
    Salary: $27.75 per hour
    Bargaining Unit position: United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 175
