Bloor Information and Life Skills Centre requires an Intake Receptionist.
Bloor Information and Life Skills Centre is a non profit, community based social service organization providing immigrant settlement services and assistance to residents, newcomers, immigrants & refugees in the area of immigration, housing, employment, job training, welfare, family benefits, CPP and other related areas. BILS also provides services to women who are victims of violence. Services are provided in the following languages: Albanian, Bengali, Cantonese, English, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish and Urdu.
Responsibilities:
- Welcomes and receives all clients; direct clients to the appropriate staff
- Answers/screens multiple telephone lines and directs calls
- Performs initial intake and screening of clients
- Provides program information to callers and walk-in visitors
- Provides basic information and referral to clients
- Word processing of letters, documents, etc. as needed
- Responsible for general office duties- i.e. faxing, photocopying, arranges courier, ordering supplies, etc.
- Collaborates with clerical/secretarial volunteers
- Maintains a welcoming and tidy waiting room; monitors clients who are present in the waiting room for extended periods
- Provides office, administrative and other support for the agency
- Maintains job postings/information bulletin board up-to –date/ regularly download information and posting from employment-internet resources sites
- Assists with preparation of agency events (open house, Annual General Meeting, media events, etc.)
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in secretarial, office techniques and reception acquired through post secondary education, or equivalent experience
- Must be able to perform multiple tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in multicultural environment
- Experience working in and an understanding of the social services and non-profit sector
- Ability to handle clients in an empathic, courteous and tactful manner
- Skills in Word processing/ MS Word at 45wpm , E- mail, Internet (Knowledge Excel and Power Point an asset)
- Ability to take initiative and work proactively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of one or more of the following languages (Albanian, Bengali, Cantonese, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi or Urdu) would be an asset
This is a part-time 7-8 months contract position scheduled to work 14 hours per week (Monday & Tuesday)
