Afghan Women's Organization requires a LINC Instructor.

Primary Function:

This position is responsible for teaching in the LINC program. The candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of issues of concern to immigrants and refugees.

Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:

  • Assesses participants needs and interests and develops and refines appropriate curriculum and materials
  • Provides information on language related to daily needs of survival and newcomer settlement issues
  • Provides language instruction through listening, speaking, pronunciation, oral exercises, reading, and writing.
  • Monitors student’s progress through observation and the assignment of regular performance tasks and tests
  • Promotes interactive language learning in a classroom setting
  • Knowledgeable about CLB’s and has the ability to integrate the CLB curriculum guidelines into our program
  • Organizes field trips and guest speakers to enhance the student’s cultural knowledge and base them on relevant topics

Non-Instructional and Administrative Duties:

  • Maintains students client data, attendance, transportation, and proficiency forms, and other student statistics as required
  • Prepares monthly narrative report and end of term reports on student and class activities
  • Writes letters for students pertaining to settlement issues, e.g. daycare, social assistance requirements
  • Participates in meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned by LINC Coordinator
  • Work as part of the Program Team to ensure smooth delivery and coordination of services to clients

Qualifications:

  • TESL Ontario Certificate from an accredited institution, with two years adult ESL experience, and post-secondary education
  • TESL Ontario membership
  • Minimum two years teaching experience
  • Ongoing professional development in order to develop and refine the class curriculum to meet changing needs
  • Experience with adapting and using the CLBs in curriculum
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Excellent teaching and group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrate ability to develop a program based on the experiences, social context and life goals of the learners
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, ability to teach fundamentals
  • Willingness and ability to work cooperatively with other instructors in areas such as curriculum; lesson planning and content, materials and methodology
  • Knowledge of Afghan culture as asset.

This is a part-time contract position scheduled to work 9 hours per week
