The Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario requires a SEPT Worker.
Reports to: Program Manager
Responsibilities:
- Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomer families to facilitate adjustment to the school system and the settlement process
- Provide information to newcomer families about resources and services in the school and the community
- Facilitate referrals and access to appropriate services both in the school and the community
- Establish and maintain contact with newcomer families to determine their needs and issues
- Promote culturally sensitive links between school staff and newcomer families
- Organize, plan and implement group sessions on topics related to settlement
- Maintain updated information on services, resources and policies relevant to the school system and settlement process
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely statistical and progress reports to the Cluster Coordinator as required
Qualifications:
- Canadian University degree or equivalent, in Social Sciences or related discipline, BSW preferred
- Knowledge of community resources and services; working experience in a school environment an asset
- Proven experience in team work and ability to work with young people and adults of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Skilled in program organization and community outreach
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
- Excellent oral and written skills in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Willing to travel within local network of schools; use of car an asset
- Proof of a Vulnerable Police Criminal Check.

Salary: Salary: $36,829 – $47,073 per annum (pro-rated)
Successful candidate will be posted to Settlement Unit / SEPT team. Any change to this posting, as well as subsequent transfer within the same job classification is at the discretion of Management. Hours: 28 hours per week; may be required to work on some evenings, weekends and / or holidays.
