Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario requires a Settlement Worker. 

Reports to: Program Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Provide information and referrals that help newcomers learn about and understand Canadian systems in their settlement process
  • Provide information and support to newcomers through individual interviews and organization of group sessions or workshops on a wide range of settlement issues
  • Facilitate access to needed services and resources where there are barriers due to language, culture and race by providing interpretation or translation
  • Keep and maintain records in a timely and professional manner
  • Keep the team updated on all new information and be cooperative in maintenance of information by tracking government policies and community resources in order to effectively inform and refer clients
  • Establish and maintain excellent service quality for clients
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationship and communication with internal and external groups.

Qualifications:

  • Canadian University degree or equivalent, in Social Sciences or related discipline, BSW preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources and services; working experience in a school environment an asset
  • Proven experience in team work and ability to work with young people and adults of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Skilled in program organization and community outreach
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Willing to travel within local network of schools; use of car an asset
  • Proof of a Vulnerable Police Criminal Check.

This is a  part-time position, scheduled to work 17.5 hours per week may be required to work irregular hours, evenings, weekends and holidays
Salary: $36,829 – $47,073 per annum (pro-rated)
Status: Unionised Position Initial Posting: Successful candidate will be posted to Settlement Unit. Any change to this posting, as well as subsequent transfer within the same job classification, is at the discretion of Management.
