FCJ Refugee Centre, Toronto, Women's and Children's Programs requires a Community Development and Program Coordinator.
Reporting to the Co-Director and Settlement and Integration Program Manager, the Women’s Program: Community Development and Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering the centre’s women’s and children’s programs for refugee women and children.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and implement community capacity building, civic engagement, and leadership development activities for past and current clients i.e. International Women’s Day, Refugee Rights Day, UNCHR World Refugee Day.
- Organize and coordinate community gardening activities and clean up days at the centre's two houses and three self-contained apartments that provide transitional housing for refugee women and children.
- Organize and attend field trips to cultural destinations of Toronto (i.e. Greek Town, China Town, Little Italy etc.).
- Organize and attend recreational field trips to sites such as the Royal Ontario Museum, Canada’s Wonderland, Centre Island, Ontario Place etc.
- Organize and attend a five day overnight cottage trip to Sanctuary North in August.
- Operate a clothing bank for women, children, babies, and men.
- Operate the Food Security Programs including receiving food donations from Second Harvest and distributing to residents each week.
- Deliver and coordinate the Women's§ Economic Development Project including conducting weekly sessions in making crafts, pottery, jewellery, teaching participants how to start their own business, catering, and marketing, and selling their wares.
- Deliver and coordinate the centre's monthly Community Kitchen for refugee women from Latin American and African communities.
Qualifications:
- Excellent program and project§ implementation and management skills.
- Results oriented, highly motivated, and able to work effectively independently or within a team setting.
- Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with service agencies from the settlement sector in a community based setting and within an anti-oppression framework.
- Effective cross-cultural communication§ skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated skills in working with new immigrants from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office, the Internet, and email.
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
- College and/or University post-secondary education.
This is a One year contract position scheduled to work 25 hours a week.
Salary: $14.00 per hour

- Be in receipt of Ontario Works Assistance.
- The person in the family applying for the position is on the Ontario Works budget (client, spouse or dependent adult over 18 years old).

- The family is in receipt of the National Child Benefit Supplement/Ontario Child Benefit or have applied for the benefit, are eligible for the benefit, and are waiting for their first payment.
