Headlines Help
The goal of the Shared Headlines tool is to let you quickly and with no ongoing maintenance display Ontario non-profit sector news, events and job postings on your website.
This tool will create a small peice of HTML code that you can incorporate into your own website. Once this HTML is added to your site the Constellation does the rest. Old Headlines are removed, new ones are added. You don't have to do anything else.
1) Using the Tool

Step 1: Type of Headline
Choose a type of Headlines to put on your site. You can display more than one type of Headline, but you need to create them one at a time.
Step 2: Categories
Because there are many events posted you may want to only show events related to specific topics. If your site is related to employment, you can limit the events Headlines to only show employment for example.
Step 3: Customize
You can decide on how many Headlines to show, whether or not to show the brief description, or show the Constellation as the source. Play around with the settings until you get the look you like. Don't forget to use the Advanced Options for more control over how the Headlines will look and work.
Step 4: Create the Code
After pressing the "Create the Code" button you will see what your Headline choices look like in the Preview box. You can change the look by just changing the settings in Step 3 and then pressing the button again. The HTML code you need is the text in the box under Step 5.
Step 5: Copy the Code
Press "Select All" and the copy the text in the box. It is this text you will need to add to one of your website pages to display the Headlines.
Step 6: Past the Code
You or the person who updates your website can take the small bit of text and add it to one of your webpages and the upload that page.
The whole process only takes a few minutes. Please contact us if you need help!
2) Advanced Options
You can control almost every feature of the Headlines. The main set up for the Headlines should be enough for most people, but for those with specific technical needs the Advanced Options has many ways to customize the Headlines to fit your needs.
For example you can control:
- number of Headlines to show
- opening links in a new window
- format of the text (ie UTF-8)
- and much more
3) Changing the Look
The default Headlines settings may not fit exactly into the current look of your site. You can control how they look in a variety of ways. Our Style page will help you customzie the look to better suit your site.
