Skills for Change, Enhanced Language Training for Agrologists requires a Project Coordinator/Job Developer.
Program Description:
To enable internationally-trained agrologists to attain the level of proficiency in English workplace communications that will allow them to find and retain employment commensurate with their qualifications and skills. The funding is under the Enhanced Language Training Initiative.
Purpose: To upgrade the language skills of internationally-trained Agrologists from Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 7/8 to CLB level 9.
Reports to: Manager of Programs and Services
Responsibilities:
- Prepare funding proposals; create program budget; monitor program expenditures; make decisions regarding purchases
- Advertise, interview and make hiring decisions to fill program staff positions
- Supervise and train staff, placement students and volunteers
- Arrange performance reviews; conduct regular supervisory and staff meetings and provide direction and support on program issues, team building and coordination
- Prepare monthly, semi-annual and yearly reports and; maintain program statistics
- Work with staff to plan, monitor, and evaluate all program activities and services
- Provide leadership to the program; set standards for service delivery
- Review program development and deliverables
- Coordinate outreach to ensure that the program has a high profile in the community and achieves its funding outcomes
- Develop intake procedures, employment and technical skills assessment tools
- Liaise and collaborate with community groups, agencies and funding officers
- Organize special events
- Participate in the partner agency project teams
- Liaise with project manager at Ontario Institute of Agrologists to develop work placement opportunities
- Conducts on-site visits to build employer relations; develop and implement marketing strategy
- Maintain statistics on job development activities including follow-up and reports as required
- Provide support to front line staff as required
- Participate in the updating of project information for agency marketing (including websiste and e-newsletter)
- Participate in the on-going development of curricula
- Research and collect up-to-date labour market information and communicate findings to the program staff and clients
- Participate in the distribution, collection, collation and analysis of participant surveys and other evaluation methodology
- Work as part of the program team to ensure smooth delivery and coordination of services to clients
- Participate in team meetings, staff meetings and committee meetings as required
- Work co-operatively with other Skills for Change staff involved in related intitatives
- Participate in program evaluation and evaluation of employment development work at Skills for Change and present solutions to enhance service
- Handle other related tasks as required by the Program Manager and Executive Director
Evaluation
- Evaluate the effectiveness of this component of the employment services at Skills for Change, including client satisfaction and employment outcome measures
- Present solutions to enhance service effectiveness on an on-going basis and as part of the larger agency service system
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience
- A minimum of three years experience in employment preparation program coordination and excellent understanding of employment services for newcomers
- A minimum of three years’ supervisory and front-line experience
- Knowledge of labour market issues and trends
- Strong facilitation skills and knowledge of job development functions
- Strong written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects and programs simultaneously
- Strong management, supervision and team building skills; able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency working in Windows, MS Word applications and internet use
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Positive attitude towards change
- Sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues of concern to newcomers
- Problem solving skills and resourcefulness required to develop new ideas and approaches to problems
- Team Player
- Initiative, energy and persistence in getting the job done
- Solid sector knowledge and experience are assets
This is a full-time contract position until March 2008, schedule to work 35-hour week, Monday- Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend
Salary: $42,000 - $45,000 per annum
