The Regent Park Community Health Centre is a community based primary health organization. It provides a mix of medical, nursing, social work, community health, community development, early childhood development, youth support and other services to a diverse community with complex health and social conditions in downtown Toronto.
Salary: $49,394 to $59,511 + Competitive Benefits
The Community Researcher will provide leadership, support and coordination in the following areas: developing the Centre’s community based research capacity, assisting and supporting community, organizational, and strategic planning processes, and helping design and support program/project evaluation capacity. The Community Researcher functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team working with staff, program participants and the broader community to further community and organizational capacity building.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and Advocacy:
- Initiate, carry out, participate in and/or monitor research on health needs;
- Initiate, develop and participate in partnerships with health, educational and community institutions; and
- Work with the management and staff to increase organizational capacity for research and advocacy.
Planning and Evaluation:
- Work with management and staff to review and improve evaluation and application of evaluation results;
- Initiate, carry out, participate in and/or monitor evaluation of the Centre’s programs, services and projects;
- Recommend improvements to program/service delivery and propose new programs/projects;
- Analyze health data to assist in organizational and strategic planning; and
- Work with management and staff to increase organizational capacity to conduct evaluation.
Project / Program Leadership / Supervision of Staff:
- In collaboration with other staff/partners develop and/or support selected community based projects;
- Generate and/or support a process of stakeholder involvement;
- Contribute to financial reporting and budgetary preparation, and monitor expenditures where required;
- Ensure effective delivery of project activities;
- Provide direct supervision and performance evaluation of relevant staff where appropriate;
- Recruit, support and supervise volunteers and students to work with programs, as required; and
- Evaluate projects to ensure that objectives are met and make changes based on evaluation results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree in Health Sciences, Social Work, or a related field, or a combination of related education & experience;
- Minimum 3 years experience in community based research, planning, and/or evaluation, preferably in a community health setting, including expertise in collecting and analyzing data;
- Thorough understanding of health promotion and community development principles;
- Demonstrated success in proposal writing, interagency networking, partnership building and policy development;
- Experience managing project budgets;
- Experience supervising/ mentoring staff, students and/or volunteers;
- Ability to speak and write fluently in a language of one of the priority groups of the Center an asset;
- Experience using data collection and analysis software; and
- Commitment to working with low income, homeless, multilingual and multi-racial communities;
