CCS is a non-profit agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS administers the Sponsorship Agreement held by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto allowing parishes and religious orders to sponsor overseas refugees.
We are seeking 1FT (35 hours/week) PSR Program Worker to focus on providing support and training to parishes and religious orders interested or involved in sponsorship.
Responsibilities:
- Outreach to Catholic institutions, parishes, religious orders, chaplaincies and communities to encourage them to engage in refugee sponsorship
- Provide training to Catholic groups interested in entering into a sponsorship agreement
- Work closely with the PSR Coordinator and other PSR program staff to meet program goals
- Evaluate requests for sponsorship to determine their eligibility and suitability for the program
- Recruit, coordinate, evaluate and supervise volunteers
- Deliver web-based training on resettlement of forced migrants including developing training materials
- Meet with potential or active sponsoring groups regarding JAS, Privately Referred and VOR cases
- Conduct information sessions, seminars and program meetings both onsite and in the community
- Prepare information packages, fact sheets, documentation and displays for special events
- Participate in research and analyze data to produce statistical and progress reports
Qualifications:
- University degree with focus on forced migration, social justice or related field; or equivalent
- Proven knowledge of all aspects of Private Refugee Sponsorship and related social justice issues
- Proven experience in working with Catholic parishes and religious orders
- Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic Social Justice Teachings
- Sensitivity to issues affecting refugee communities both internationally and in Canada
- Ability to deliver web-based support and training programs
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce professional reports
- Experience in public speaking and group animation
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting and independently
- Possession of Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a car is required
- Ability to work efficiently in all aspects of an MS Office environment Proficiency in written and spoken English is required; French and/or Spanish language skills an asset
- Ability to work weekends and evenings in different locations and on a regular basis
